| "I'm not so sure about this," said Ashlee to Isaac as she looked into the opening of the dark cave. It seemed a lot more intimidating now that she was here. There were sure to be plenty of Natrelmon in the caves, though, and Pinehearst, who hosted the caves to miners and Natrelmon trainers, assured the relative safety of the caves (excluding dangerous Natrelmon that could be found within). Still, they made her uneasy, a bit like the forests around Armkfish.
Albion was resting on the ground besides Ashlee, already glowing brightly and waiting eagerly to enter the caves. There would probably be plenty of Natrelmon to fight in the caves, which made Albion excited instead of worried.

| Isaac peered into the darkness of the cave, a curious expression on his face. He wasn't completely comfortable with the caves, either. The darkness meant any Natrelmon would be nearly impossible to sketch in their natural environment before capture. That was a disappointment. Beyond that, Petal would be much less effective in the rocky environment, which meant he might have a tough time battling the wild Natrelmon in the first place. Still, if she was going to get used to fighting in unfavorable conditions at some point, it might as well be now.
He smiled at Ashlee reassuringly, putting up a front of confidence. She seemed hesitant here, and he could sympathize. The claustrophobic darkness could easily take a person the wrong way. Still, if he acted hesitantly as well, they might end up not going in at all, and there were surely Natrelmon that could only be captured in the caves. "Trainers go in there all the time, so it must be structurally sound," he said calmly, partly trying to convince himself, but wanting to put her at ease. "Besides, I'm sure Petal and your Albion can take on any wild Natrelmon we find in there."
At this, Petal took a few eager steps toward the cave, rustling the petals in her branches. Even though it wasn't a favorable environment for the Sakura-re, she didn't seem particularly perturbed. Possibly the presence of the two familiar trainers instilled her with confidence, as of a child near her parents. Whatever the reason for her enthusiasm, it cheered Isaac somewhat, and his smiled widened. She was so innocent, some times... He'd have to be careful she didn't get herself hurt with that carefree attitude, though. |

| "Alright, Isaac... let's go," said Ashlee, and with that, she headed into the caves, with Albion in front of her. The Light Natrelmon's glowing aura did a fairly good job of illuminating the caves, though it only lit up an area about twenty feet in diameter and when it was obstructed, long shadows were created. There were no Natrelmon initially visible, though Ashlee imagined that most Natrelmon nearby would be disturbed by the light and so would likely be drawn to the group.
"Albion, explore! See how high this cave goes!" said Ashlee emphatically though also quietly, since she was still slightly afraid of causing a cave-in. She also noticed how her voice echoed off of the hard rock within the cave. I suppose that will make it easier to hear any Natrelmon around, she thought. But it will also make it easier for them to hear us. I guess whether it'll help depends on the Natrelmon and how... aggressive it is.
Albion obeyed, cautiously gaining height to make sure that he didn't collide with the ceiling or any stalactites. He didn't have to be too cautious, however, since he soon saw the light reflecting off of the jagged cave ceiling about twenty feet above Ashlee and Isaac. He remained only about twelve feet above the cave floor, however, to make sure that Ashlee and Isaac could still use his light to see. He awaited further orders from Ashlee as the group continued to advance into the caves.

| Isaac stayed near Ashlee, not for any particular reason beyond some vague awareness of her nervousness and a still vaguer urge to protect her from... what? From fear? Or was he deriving some comfort against his own nervousness by her presence? He fell back by a few steps, paying close attention to the cave roof for Natrelmon.
Petal skipped ahead of Ashlee, toward the edge of the light, energetic as ever. |

| "Albion, go check it out!" said Ashlee excitedly as she thought she heard two distinct sets of footsteps quite a ways in front of them. Before Albion flew away, Ashlee stopped moving and also placed a hand on Isaac's shoulder to stop him, since they would be more or less without light once Albion was far enough away.
Albion flew forward quickly, excited to find and fight some Natrelmon. He stopped about thirty feet in front of Ashlee and Isaac since he hadn't seen anything and the noise had stopped. He signaled to Ashlee by quickly flashing the light. "Come back, Albion," said Ashlee, slightly disappointed, "but pay attention to the geography on the way back." She then turned to Isaac, unable to see him but knowing where he was due to her hand on his arm. "I guess it must have just been the echoes of our footsteps. We need to be careful about that."
Albion flew back to Ashlee even more quickly, not wanting to leave her and Isaac without light for very long. It seemed that Albion could also sense Ashlee's unease. As he flew towards the group, he took note of the surroundings. The cave was becoming much less smooth and more and more stalagmites were appearing. He returned to his position hovering about twelve feet above the cave floor just a bit in front of Ashlee. The two began to advance once again, but Ashlee did not remove her arm from Isaac's shoulder; however, she also seemed to not really realize that it was there.
"So... do you want to see if we can challenge the Ward Arena when we get back? If the Arena Master is there, of course..." whispered Ashlee to Isaac. "I think we're ready, even though it's not the weakest Arena. Our Natrelmon are strong enough." Although she did fully believe she was ready, Ashlee still wasn't quite sure what Natrelmon she wanted to use against the Ward Arena Master. She could probably win fairly easily with Albion, but he was already stronger than the rest of her Natrelmon. Ficicle also seemed to have advantage against Earth types, but there were also Earth Natrelmon like Kaiguard and Rhyferno who have somewhat of an advantage against Ice types, and Ashlee had a feeling that the Arena Master would have at least one of those Natrelmon.

| Isaac unconsciously tensed up at Ashlee's touch, but forced himself to relax as the light faded. This might be perceived as a nervousness about the darkness. He glanced out after the advancing Albion, hands firmly in his pockets, and exhaled as it started to return. A thought occured to him. Perhaps the Natrelmon, so used to the darkness, were being frightened off by the light-producing dragon? They might be running away instead of towards them. Still, he wasn't about to suggest they keep going without any lights. Someone could get hurt.
Petal rushed forward with the Albion, trying to beat it to whatever Natrelmon showed up. She tripped partway, however, and fell to the ground, scattering a few petals. She let out a cry of surprise, and rose to her feet again, sniffling. She had taken multiple attacks from enemy Natrelmon and kept fighting, but a scraped knee... er... trunk was an entirely different matter. Still, she went on, but stopped as the Albion returned. She sighed, and trudged back towards the trainers, petals drooping. She had been beaten, even though no Natrelmon had manifested.
Isaac tried to think about Ashlee's question, very aware of her hand on his shoulder. Ward was the... steel arena, because of the mines? No, the earth arena. He remembered reading that somewhere. Earth types... most of his Natrelmon would have an advantage there, right? Unless there was a Rhyferno, or something, that is. Still, it was only the second arena... the Natrelmon couldn't be that strong. Did she realize she was... should he mention it?
"It's still pretty early yet in the day, but he should be getting in soon. I agree, though, we should be able to take him on. His Natrelmon can't be that strong,"
He saw Petal in his periphial vision and focused on her, seeing she was walking with a slight limp. She didn't seem that hurt, but still, he was concerned. Petal looked up at him and smiled brightly. Well, she was alright, then. |

| As Isaac began speaking again, Ashlee suddenly became more aware of his presence and also realized that her hand was resting on his shoulder. She abruptly pulled it away and brought it back to her side, though she realized afterward that this probably startled Isaac more than her hand's presence in the first place. Wanting to quickly change the subject, she replied: "Um... yeah, I agree. But after that, what do we want to do? I think the next Arena is in... Armkfish? No, I think it's Relin... or is it Armkfish? I really should know, since I grew up in Armkfish and all. Either way, I think they use Ice types in the next Arena, so... Relin would make more sense, I guess... y'know, since it's all... cold and stuff."
"I don't mean that we have to just rush through the Arenas, though! I... umm... like travelling with you, Isaac," said Ashlee, hoping that Isaac wouldn't be able to notice her blushing, although Albion's light was shining pretty brightly on her face. Ugh! Why is this so awkward? Why can't I just calm down? thought Ashlee. Luckily, Ashlee noticed Sakura-re's limping just after she finished talking. "Oh no! Is she alright?" asked Ashlee, preparing to stop in case Isaac wanted to take a closer look at the Natrelmon, which is what Ashlee would have done in the situation.
Since the group was proceeding at a fairly slow pace for an Albion, the Natrelmon did not have to strain himself very much. He was thus able to focus a good deal of his attention on the area around him, and it was a good thing he was, since Ashlee seemed to be quite distracted by Isaac at the moment. He looked up at the ceiling and noticed that it was gradually sloping upwards despite the overall tunnel's leading downwards. Albion did know that this was sort of odd, but he was only a Natrelmon and not even the smartest of all Natrelmon, so he didn't realize that this probably meant that the tunnel was going to open into a much larger room soon. Still, something about the cave made him feel uncomfortable, and so he began to gather energy for a Lightwave even without Ashlee's orders.

| Isaac grinned sheepishly as she drew her hand back, feeling his ears burn red, and tried to put that out of his mind and focus on what she was saying. The Arena after Ward was... yeah, Relin, like she said. That got him thinking about the order of the Arenas, which he wasn't quite sure about. The first was Toran, he knew that, and it was fire. After that was Ward, which he had decided was Earth, and then Relin like Ashlee said. Then was Armkfish, which was... electricity? No, that didn't sound right. Ghost? No, that was Echo later on... Dark, that was it! Oh, wait, did Ilvser come before Armkfish? Ilvser was earth because of the sand... no, Ward was earth. That meant Ilvser was steel? Yes, it had to be... bah. It wasn't relevant yet, anyway.
Isaac started to answer her after the first sentence of her excuse, starting to say, "It's alright to be eager, heh," but fell silent as she said the second, trying to stifle a blush of his own. He was happy to hear she felt that way, but it was... he didn't even know. Once again, he thought of what she'd mentioned before. She might have been interested in a farm were it not for the cost. The Arenas were going to give plenty of money... Maybe he should bring it up now? No, it wasn't the time, and besides, they didn't even have the money yet.
Petal waved to Ashlee, keeping on over to the trainers. She seemed alright, now that she was getting over the initial shock of the fall, but Isaac still knelt down to her level as she came close. "Are you alright, Petal?" he asked, looking at the cut on her trunk. It was just a superficial wound, a flesh wound as it were, and already the... sap... was solidifying around it. She fluttered her petals at him reassuringly. Isaac smiled, patting her on the side. "You're doing a great job," he said to the Sakura-re encouragingly. "Keep going, I'm sure you'll find something!" |

| Ashlee's mind started wondering to the order of the Arenas also. She had a fairly good concept of them, since she had sort of paid attention to Aiex's journey when she was taking it, but Ashlee often forgot things. The only Arena battle of Aiex's she had actually witnessed was her battle against Ilsver, since that was the only Arena that generally allowed visitors. See, Toran is first, and he uses Fire Natrelmon. Ward, which has Earth comes next. Then it would be... Relin with Ice, and then Armkfish with Dark. Then Ilsver with Steel. Then... um... I think Sakura... which definitely uses Grass. Wait, Atrew is before Sakura! And Atrew would definitely use Water. After Sakura, then, is either... Orin... or... Echo? And one of them uses Poison and the other Ghost. And the last one is in Lifan and... I'm not sure what type Lifan uses. It can't be Wind, Psychic, or Dragon, since I think the Elite Triumvirate use those types and that doesn't leave many types left...
Ashlee didn't have time to continue pondering the Arenas before she and Isaac entered a large room within the cave. Numerous stalagmites, stalactites, and columns covered the floor and ceiling. I didn't think there were be this many in real life... but I guess the books and stuff didn't lie. The stalactites, stalagmites, and columns seemed to reflect more light than the rest of the stones, so the room was actually relatively bright when the group entered due to Albion's light. There was also a downside to the speleothems' presence, however: they created many shadows and other areas where Isaac, Ashlee, and the Natrelmon weren't immediately able to see.
"Albion, explore! See if there are any Natrelmon!" Ashlee was quite surprised that no Natrelmon had appeared as of yet. She thought the caves would be teeming with Dark and Earth Natrelmon. Why are there so few Natrelmon? Has something happened to them all, or is it just that we're searching for them? As Ashlee thought that, she recalled a fairly obscure idea in physics and giggled a little, before suddenly stopping. She hoped that Isaac wouldn't make much of her giggling.
It seemed that Isaac had better things to worry about, however; an Elwis was disturbed by the bright glow of Albion's light, and it screamed as an instinct. The sound echoed through the large room, becoming quite frightening. The Elwis levitated up from behind a series of stalagmites and observed the trainers and Natrelmon. It knew that the Albion probably outmatched it, and so instead it turned its attention to the Sakura. It began to drift closer to the Natrelmon, at the same time expanding the shadows in the room.

| Petal stared up at the Elwis, frozen in terror, branches quivering. She tried in vain to launch an attack, or make a defense, or even just move, or do anything but stand there like a deer in the headlights! The fear locked her muscles in place, though, and she couldn't so much as make a sound...
"Petal!" Isaac exclaimed, clamping his hands over his ears to block out the piercing sound. It still found a way in. "Fire seeds and charge pollen!" His voiced echoed through the chamber, audible over the scream somewhat, if only just. The Natrelmon seemed to snap out of her paralysis at the orders, and acted.
She fired three seed bullets toward the ghost so that if it stayed in place without defending, all three bullet seeds would strike it, and if it moved to the left or right it was likely at least one seed would strike it. This was more to see how the Elwis would react and to get Petal into a battle frame of mind than an attempt to actually deal damage, however. |

| Ashlee shrieked at the sight of the Elwis. Albion initially wanted to attack it, but Ashlee told him to hold off when she saw that it was going after Isaac. He could use the Natrelmon, after all, since he'd given her quite a few of his.

| Before Ashlee could even make it to the next corridor of the cave, she would be stopped by the sight of a massive dragon, Megitox, which invariably caught the sight and smell of both human and dragon flesh down the corridor... without warning past that, the Megitox let forth its powerful dragon breath in the general direction of the group, both to show dominance and to hurt the Albion. The cave would soon reek... very badly... |

| "Albion, Lightwave!" said Ashlee upon seeing the vicious Natrelmon. She couldn't quite recall what it was off of the top of her head, but it seemed powerful, and she wanted it.
Albion obeyed, firing the Lightwave straight at the Megitox as it was releasing the dragon breath. Since the dragon breath was meant to be a simple release of gas and not a concentrated attack, the dragon breath would not hinder the Lightwave at all. Megitox probably wouldn't be able to dodge, since it was focused on its breath attack.
Noticing the foul smell, Ashlee covered her face with the neck of her sweatshirt, hoping to block the worst of the smell out. She also recalled Albion just after the Lightwave was fired, realizing that he wouldn't be of much use in this fight. She then sent out another Natrelmon; however, with the light from Albion's Glow and Lightwave suddenly gone, Megitox would have a hard time seeing it initially. There was, however, a scraping sound to Ashlee's left...
