Isaac laid out in the park on his back, staring up at the sky. He rested on a small hill, near which a shallow stream gurgled peacefully. His face was impassive, not a muscle twitching save when he blinked. His breathing was slow and relaxed. Just above his left eye was a small pink blossom, his Natrelmon. Though it was hard to tell, it looked relaxed as well.

"That one looks rather like a boot, don't you think?" he asked casually, pointing up at a cloud. "And those small puffy ones around it could be... lint, I suppose." He let his arm slide down to the ground again, returning to the relaxed state.

After a few moments Isaac let out a sigh. "It's such a beautiful day, I feel... selfish, really, keeping it to just the two of us." Petal yawned, stretching out in the sunlight. He drew out two cards from his briefcase, calling out his Grianos and Bruse. He gently pushed the Bruse over, which let out a startled 'Moo' as it fell to its side. The Grianos looked around, alert for a moment, before sidling further along the hillside and laying down to bask in the sunlight.

Isaac smiled, drawing out a sheet of paper and pencil, looking for something eye-catching to draw...

And Isaac would certainly see something interesting as an Ebe flew straight across his field of vision while he was looking up at the clouds.

"Ebe, get back here!" shouted Ashlee, running after her Natrelmon. Sparwire was also out, though she was flying beside Ashlee, having known her for longer. Ebe finally circled around and returned to Ashlee, hovering gently beside his trainer as she stopped in front of Isaac.

"I'm sorry about that," said Ashlee. "I just caught him yesterday. I see you have some Natrelmon yourself. How long have you had them for?"

Isaac blinked as the Ebe passed overhead, following it with his gaze which, after a moment, brought him to a sitting position. As it settled on Ashlee, he smiled, realizing it wasn't in fact a somewhat rare wild Natrelmon he was missing out on catching, what with his lack of free relics.

"Well, I've had Petal here for a few years now, before I started out as a trainer. I only caught the Bruse and Grianos yesterday. The little bull's a bit more friendly than most fresh ones, though, given it's age." At this moment the Bruse looked up at Ashlee and let out an amiable 'Moo'. It did enjoy doing that. Possibly it would be content with any master so long as it had its freedom of speech.

Isaac looked over Ashlee. "That Ebe looks pretty healthy for a new trainer. It must have taken some skill to bring down," he said, smiling.

"Well, he didn't really have much to do offensively, but he sure was fast," said Ashlee, after smiling at the Bruse's noise. "And I can see that it's young," continued Ashlee, indicating Bruse with her hand. "I have a Kaeru, too, but... well... yeah..."

Sparwire landed in front of the Bruse and looked up into its face, intrigued. It seemed that she wanted it to moo again. Ebe, though he was also intrigued by the other Natrelmon, was too timid to fully approach them, especially after he had flown by like that, and so he stayed next to Ashlee.

The Bruse stared at the Sparwire for a moment with large, dull eyes. It's bovine expression was exceedingly hard to read. Then, a wide, red tongue snaked out to lick the bird, probably with enough unconscious force to knock the bird off its feet. Even at a low level, the bull was still a fighting type, and it had more power than it knew what to do with at that age.

Isaac looked thoughtful for a moment, looking at his hands. "Kaeru, Kaeru... the rat? No, wait, that's a tadpole. Huh. That's a tough break..." He looked back to Ashlee. "What sort of relic did you use to catch it?" he asked, his tone casual but not casual enough to hide he was going somewhere with that.

Grianos opened one reptilian eye, observing the new trainer and her Natrelmon, but otherwise didn't react. It almost seemed a statue for all it was moving. After a moment it's eye focused on the Sparwire. Perhaps it was just the light, but it seemed there was a... a predatory glint in the creature's eye.

Petal clung to a lock of Isaac's hair, still hanging by his eye, watching Ashlee cautiously. She was still nervous around strangers, save Luke who she now wanted to fight, run away from, or intimidate.

Sparwire immediately jumped up and flapped her wings furiously when the Bruse opened its mouth, afraid of what it might do. Luckily, Sparwire managed to get out of the way before Bruse's tongue reached her. Ironically, Sparwire's frantic flapping of her wings would send a fairly small gust of wind at Bruse; Sparwire inadvertently attacked the Natrelmon while trying to get away from its tongue.

"Umm... I used an E-Rank Relic to catch it. Luckily, I got it on the first try... but why do you ask?" asked Ashlee, surprised at the level of his interest in her Natrelmon.

Ebe was further frightened by the Bruse's actions, and so he flew behind Ashlee and landed, trying to hide behind her legs.

Bruse looked hurt, a look of desolation taking over its face. It loud out a 'Moo' of dejection, and looked up soulfully at the Sparwire. It didn't understand what had just happened. It had made a friend, and then it flew away... If it were physically possible, there would be a black raincloud hovering over the bull specifically.

"Let's see... an E Relic is..." Isaac fished in a pocket and drew out a 750 N note. He proffered it to Ashlee. "Here, for your trouble. I'm sure that thing will take quite a lot of time and effort to raise, and this'll probably help some. That's how much the relic costs, isn't it?" There was no pity in his voice, or sign he was trying to earn a favor to further some agenda. Just a genuine willingness to help someone.

Grianos' eye followed the Sparwire, not blinking in the manner of its species. Sakura, on the other hand, seemed to be daring itself to go say hello to the trainer, so far as one could tell.

"Uh... it actually only costs N500, but you don't need to give me any money. It's not your fault that I found it, and I'm sure I'll eventually find some use for it," said Ashlee, surprised by his generous offer. "But, if you're going to be adamant about giving me money, how about we battle for it? I haven't actually battled before, and it would be nice for me to get some practice before the beginners' tournament. So, how about it?"

Sparwire did feel a little pity for the Bruse, but she still didn't approach it again, afraid that it would inadvertently hurt her. Sparwire's interect was peaked, however, at the mention of the word battle. She also had never battled before. Ebe, on the other hand, chirped in surprise and looked up at Ashlee, almost as if he didn't want them to battle.

Isaac smiled again at the mention of a battle. Personally, he felt he was getting addicted to the adrenalin rush of combat. That might even explain his inexplicable shift in personality during fights. Still, enthusiasm for battle on his part could only help his Natrelmon grow faster, but... he'd try to tone it down a bit. It was the first step toward keeping a more level head in combat, and... he also didn't want to embarrass himself in front of Ashlee.

"Sounds like fun," he said, rising to his feet. He sized up her Sparwire and Ebe, estimating how strong they would be. "Your two Natrelmon against my Sakura and Grianos? I'm afraid Bruse is a little young to be fighting Natrelmon of this caliber yet."

As Isaac mentioned this Bruse looked up at him, looking even more depressed and betrayed. It let out a murmur that might have been a 'Moo' but was too quiet to be discerned. Isaac glanced down at it and shook his head, patting the bull on the neck. "Maybe next time, little guy. We'll get some training done, and then you might be able to take on those bigger Natrelmon. Just sit back and enjoy the sunny weather." Bruse seemed somewhat comforted by Isaac's words, possibly only from his tone if it didn't understand the meaning. It lay its head down and tried to doze off.

Grianos' eye shifted to Isaac as he spoke its name, raising its head slightly. It was paying attention. Sakura let go of Isaac's hair and drifted to the ground, eyes staying on the comparatively impossibly tall stranger before her.

"Alright, then," said Ashlee. She then turned around and walked away from Isaac, stopping when the distance between them was about fifteen feet and turning around to face Isaac. "Get ready, guys!"

Sparwire excitedly followed Ashlee, gaining height as she did. When Ashlee turned around, Sparwire was about ten feet above the ground, three feet to Ashlee's left, and two feet in front of Ashlee. Ebe took up a similar position on Ashlee's opposite side. Both Natrelmon prepared to attack or defend.

"Sparwire, use Inner Storm on Sakura! Keep it on its toes, and don't give it time to plant any seeds! Ebe, go after it! Still, be ready for an attack from Grodra, guys!" Sparwire obeyed, firing a jolt of electricity straight at the Grass Natrelmon. Ebe began to fly towards Sakura, still maintaining his height. When he reached her, unless an attack or something else would give him cause to change his plan, he would lower his height slightly and begin a Whirlwind.

Luckily, Isaac and Ashlee were in a garden and so the ground here wasn't too hard, which would be bad for Grodra's Stone Blades.

Isaac walked over to Grianos, prodding it with his toe. "Hey, get up. You have a battle," he said. The Grianos watched him indifferently. It yawned and lay its head down, seeming to go to sleep. Isaac frowned. "Come on, you lazy lizard, get up. Petal can't do this all by herself." Grianos contrived to look as statue-like as possible. Its expression could only be described as... stone-faced. Isaac tried a new tactic. "Are you going to let a flower show you up? For the second time?" The lizard's eyelid twitched, and it growled, a deep rumbling sound. It didn't move to get up, though. "Look, if you do well I'll get you a lump of graphite or something, okay? A great big chunk." Grianos lifted its head, looking at him with a new alertness. "Yes, really. Now..."

Isaac looked over to Ashlee and her team as she neared her chosen position, and then to Petal and Grianos. He seemed to think for a moment, and then moved five feet over to the side, out of range to be hit by all but the worst aimed attacks at the stone dragon. He took a seat once again, holding his pencil properly, and paused for a moment in thought as Sparwire and Ebe moved to their aerial positions.

"Alright... Petal, take up a position at Grianos. She can best serve for defense in this battle, since she's hardly getting in the sky at this point. Start a green whirlwind, you know the one."

Petal did so, and started to flap her petals, forming a whirlwind. It began taking up debris underneath it, grass and twigs and such. After just a moment the inner section of the whirlwind was completely concealed. Grianos wrapped its tail around the outside of the whirlwind, not quite touching it, and formed a slab to block the thin stream of electricity that was no doubt weakened by the distance it was being fired at.This would probably constitute an attack to change Ebe's plans.

Isaac began to sketch away at the paper, glancing at it every few moments, mostly looking up at the battle and its participants however.

Unfortunately for Isaac and Sakura, the Inner Storm was fired at a high enough angle so that Grianos would not be able to effectively hold its tail that high; thus, the Inner Storm hit Sakura, doing a decent amount of damage, considering Sakura's low defenses. Sakura would need to take quite a bit more damage to be out of the fight, however.

And that was Ebe's job. Surprisingly, Grianos did not really change Ebe's plan that much; Grianos could only effectively block moves from the side, and Ebe would be attacking from above. Ebe only rose a few more feet into the air, staying about twelve feet in front of the ground. Ebe then began his Whirlwind, beating his wings slowly and heavily to maximize the range and power. At this height, he didn't really have to worry about an attack from Sakura or Grianos, especially with only soil for the latter to use. Though Whirlwind wasn't really a damaging attack, the damage would build up over time, and Sakura wouldn't be able to escape any time soon; first, Grianos would have to uncurl its tail from around the Natrelmon, and then Sakura would have to move against Ebe's wind pulling it up, which would also effectively cancel out Sakura's whirlwind, since Ebe was an actual Wind type and was also higher-leveled. In addition, the wind would cause any seeds Sakura tried to launch to lose their momentum and thus be unable to plant themselves into the ground. By the time Sakura would be able to get out of the attack, its relic would probably be glowing.

"Sparwire, Shock again; this time on the other one," said Ashlee quietly to her Natrelmon. Sparwire obeyed. Hopefully, Grianos would be too busy with the Whirlwind and trying to get its tail away from Sakura to realize that this Shock was aimed at the side of its head.

Of course, the entire time, Ashlee was ready with Feeble Walls in case one of her opponents could somehow get off an attack that would actually pose a serious threat to either of her Natrelmon.

Isaac blinked. "Oh, my, I wasn't expecting that. Petal, use it to your advantage! Grianos... um... start throwing things! You can at least get a workout!"

If the direction the large whirlwind had been spinning had been counter to the Sakura's, it would have, indeed, caused the Sakura's to dissipate. As it was, the smaller twister remained in the larger one, spinning faster and... rising. The updraft still lifted Petal into the air who, still making the whirlwind, caused it to rise up toward the Ebe. If she'd tried to escape through the sides she'd have taken damage, but it was minimal at this point. She started to drift to one side as the pull started to affect her, but a feeble wall appeared next to her for the instant necessary for her to push off and correct her course. She would reach the Ebe in a moment.

Grianos hissed, moving out of the whirlwind, its undulating movement making it a surprisingly difficult target. It ignored the whirlwind, its heavy 300 pound weight making it pretty much immune to the effects of the wind. It was out in just a moment. As its head jerked to one side with a step, the Shock zapped past its head, hitting the ground some distance to the side. With each step it kicked a stone blade into the whirlwind which was carried up through the whirlwind, not really hitting anything. The point was that it was Getting Exercise.

Isaac still busily sketched away, apparently getting rather happy with the results of his drawing judging by the expression on his face.

Sakura's Whirlwind, after all, did not cancel out Ebe's Whirlwind, as discussed previously. So, Sakura would take heavy damage from Ebe's Whirlwind while it gathered the momentum necessary to lift Sakura off the ground; however, once Sakura was lifted off of the ground, Ebe would change his wing movements slightly so that he was simply using the Wind innate, not a Whirlwind, which would just push Sakura back onto the ground. Ebe would also then allow himself to lower two feet down to his original height so that the attack would gain more power. The wind's pressing down on Sakura would prevent it from being able to move out of the area of the attack, and so Sakura would continue to take damage until its Relic glowed, which would not take too long at this point. Of course, this plan was subject to change and Ashlee was prepared to use Feeble Walls if necessary.

Sparwire, meanwhile, was intent on keeping Grianos distracted, as Ashlee ordered her presently. Sparwire fired another Inner Storm at Grianos, hoping to distract it from Ebe. Of course, Sparwire was also ready to dodge if she needed to, and Ashlee was also prepared to help Sparwire if needed.

Sakura let out a shriek as it was slammed to the ground, a bunch of razor-sharp grass blades slicing down in front of her, and leaped backward to dodge. She let out a sigh of relief, and glanced up before screaming and trying to run as a few large sharpened stone slabs smashed down around her, shattering on contact with the ground. A feeble wall appeared above it, blocking the wind for a half second, allowing her to run toward the edge of the wind innate attack's range. The Ebe would probably just follow it with the gust, however. If the wind Natrelmon did, Isaac would recall the Sakura, accepting it was too outmatched with these aerial fighters.

Grianos hissed, stepping to the side, dodging the weak electric attack. It sharpened the slab on its tail to a blade and flung it toward the Sparwire, and then formed another and did the same, and another. The bird would likely dodge, but it would limit the time it had to fire the electric attacks.

If the bird dodged the slab, however, it would fall toward Ashlee unintentionally... the first slab that fell toward her would meet a feeble wall, thrown up at the last second by Isaac coupled with a hurried apology about the Grianos' lack of finesse, wasn't it just a card, ha ha. In the mean time, he still focused on his sketch.

"Keep up the good work, Grianos, you're giving them a run for their money," he said distractedly.

Ebe did follow Sakura with the wind until Isaac recalled her. Then, Ebe took a wide turn in the air and began to approach the Grianos from behind. Once he reached Grianos, he would simply use the Wind innate on Grianos from above, mostly just to slow it down and do some minor damage. Of course, Ebe would be able to react and Ashlee would be ready to help.

To dodge the slabs, Sparwire simply flew a little towards Grianos, and since all three of them were fired in an arc to be able to hit Sparwire, they all flew neatly over her (since the Grianos unfortunately didn't adjust its aim for each slab), but towards Ashlee. Sparwire fired two Shocks straight at Grianos while it was still busy firing the last two slabs, and it was also at this point that Ebe's wind began to beat down on Grianos. Hopefully, the combination of these two factors would cause the Shocks to hit.

Ashlee shrieked when she realized that the slabs were headed towards her. She began to move out of the way, and the first one would have hit her were it not for Isaac's Feeble Wall. Luckily, though, she was able to avoid the last two and then return her attention to the battle, once again ready to use a Feeble Wall.

Grianos hissed as the wind beat down, caught off guard for a moment and off balance as it was throwing the third slab, slumping to the ground. The first shock missed by an inch, the second, which was probably fired at a slightly altered trajectory, striking its left shoulder. It rose to its feet, flinging a blade at the Sparwire, and another, this time following the bird's movement. It seemed to be tiring slightly, but was also getting angrier which supplied it with additional energy. These slabs wouldn't be on course for Ashlee this time, fortunately.

Isaac, now without any more feeble walls, was focusing entirely on his illustration. He was using several different pencils from his briefcase now, and seemed to be adding color, guiding pencil tips to dance across the paper with a practiced hand. He glanced up at the scene before him less and less as he got further in his work, getting a stronger and stronger mental image of what was there.

"You can do it, Grianos!" he added, sounding completely genuine, glancing up at the lizard. The lizard ignored him. It was intent on the Sparwire. Now, firm on its feet, it didn't even seem to notice the wind attacks being launched at it, or even the opposing trainer. Predatory instinct and malice narrowed its attention to only the small electric bird.

Sparwire simply began to beat her wings harder to dodge the slabs; this movement did two things: first, it raise her altitude enough to avoid the first slab; secondly, it created a gust of wind that blew the second slab slightly off course, causing both of them to miss. Sparwire then fired two Inner Storms at the Grianos, taking its movement into account. The lizard would probably only be able to dodge one due to its low speed and the wind beating down on it (even though Grianos didn't realize it, it was still there; Grianos' anger can't function like an innate).

"Well, you only have one Natrelmon left, and I have two. Sparwire is more able to dodge than your Grianos. It will probably take a while, but I'm still going to win this. Why drag it out?" asked Ashlee, hoping that Isaac would realize that it was pointless to continue the fight. She was still ready to use a Feeble Wall while talking, also.

Grianos threw up a slab this time for defense. The two shocks hit the slab, not affecting it much beyond heating it slightly. It then fell to the ground and shattered. The lizard hissed, trailing the bird with its eyes, forming another slab in preparation. The wind wasn't affecting the lizard much due to its own innate weight. It was used to supporting 300 pounds of weight normally. The downdraft from the Ebu was insignificant compared to this. Damage was being done, but it was... rather minor.

Isaac didn't seem to hear Ashlee at first. He added a few more things to the paper, and smiled, holding it up to the light. "Yes..." he said, and raised Grianos' card in his other hand. "Come back, you. You've done well. Take five." The lizard seemed acutely surprised as it faded from view, gripping the ground with its vicious claws as if trying to hold on and continue the fight, leaving four sets of gouges in the green turf.

The boy slipped his tools to the briefcase and closed it with an audible snap of the clasps. He rose to his feet, brushing some dirt from his pants, and walked over to Ashlee, holding the note and paper in his left hand, suitcase in his right. "Heh, my Natrelmon were a little outmatched here. Nice job, though. Here, you've earned this,"

He held out what was in his left hand. It had the 750 N note, yes, but also the paper with the drawing. It was a portrait of Ashlee from the waist up, Sparwire perched on her left shoulder, Ebe peeking from behind her on the right. It was drawn beautifully, a sort of ambient light featured that rather suited her. It was signed with a slanted 'Isaac K.' in the corner, but made so you might not notice it taking in the whole illustration. Given he'd started working on it at the start of the battle, he couldn't have had much time to work on it, which made it all the more impressive. Isaac blushed slightly, avoiding meeting her gaze.

Isaac was momentarily interrupted when Sparwire, now on the ground next to Ashlee, began to glow with a white light before growing and changing form slightly. When the light was gone, it was apparent that Sparwire was now a Crowire.

"Wow," said Ashlee, stunned by her Sparwire's evolution after only one battle. "That was a great battle, um... do I actually know your name? I'm Ashlee, by the way." Ashlee then took the money and the drawing from Isaac's hand. "Wow... that wasn't necessary... but thank you, Isaac." Ashlee started to blush a little as well, not really sure what to say in a situation like this.

"So, do you um... want to exchange PDA numbers? So we can call each other... if we want to battle again or... something?" asked Ashlee timidly.

Isaac smiled awkwardly and nodded. "Yes, that sounds, er... I'd like that," he said. After a moment he'd drawn out a pencil and two slips of paper from his case and, after writing his number on one, proffered both to Ashlee. His PDA looked rather new and, just by the way he held it, he seemed rather unused to how it was used. The nervousness he was probably feeling right now couldn't be helping his memory on its use, either.

"So, um, I was about to go get some relics and have a look around for some wild Natrelmon. Do you want to come along? I mean, the last time you got... You might get a better... this time..." Isaac fell into an embarrassed silence. He felt he must be making a fair mess of things. Hopefully she got his meaning from that...

Bruse, the last Natrelmon out, stirred. It loud out a huge yawn, giving a full display of its mouth and throat for all those interested to see, raising its head and blinking sleepily. It looked around for where everyone went, since they had all moved over some twenty feet in one direction from where they'd been originally.

Ashlee took the paper Isaac had written his number on and inserted it into her pocket so that she could program it into her PDA later, after carefully putting Isaac's drawing in her bag and putting the money in her pocket. She took the other paper and pencil and wrote her number on it and then handed it back to Isaac.

"That would be fun," said Ashlee, "though I don't think I'm going to try to catch another Natrelmon. I already caught Kaeru today, and I don't want to take more than my fair share... but I'm still happy to come along!" She then withdrew Crowire's and Ebe's relics from her bag, noting how the former's had changed shape, and recalled both of the Natrelmon. Even though they didn't get hit, they could use their rest as well. "So, are we ready?"
