| Ridley sat on the sand dune, dispirited as usual. It was midday, and the sun was shining high in the sky. Last's night wild Natrelmon hunt had been both unsuccessful and annoying, as had had caught a cold from the frigid sea wind that had blown in from the ocean last night. Medicine had repelled both of it, but the odd sniffle here and there still remained. It was annoying to say the least. Indeed, the only profit Ridley had made from the entire night was knowledge of the techniques Grianos could use in sand, and even then sand wasn't the most common of battleground. No, he had come off worse from last night's failed expedition, and it didn't look like his luck would be changing any time soon.
His thoughts turned to Genbu, again. He had spent the entire day looking for information in the local libraries, colleges and other places of learning, including specialist Natrelmon databases only the more important cities had. All of them had been disappointing. He had only found the same scarce information that Ridley had already known - it now seemed that that was the only thing that most people, even learned scholars and historians, could find on the legendary Natrelmon. Ridley suspected certain people would know more, but had kept it to themselves in the hope of obtaining the Legendary Natrelmon. And there was the high chance that the information he wanted was only available in old tomes and ancient scrolls, in places hidden from prying eyes...
It was a curious matter, but not one with an obvious solution. As Ridley had thought last night, it was a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a mystery, and that was covered in a myriad of facts and fiction, all of it wound tightly together and impossible to extricate from each other. Even if Ridley was on the threshold of discovering the location, picture or any other vital information about Genbu or any of the others, it was highly possible that a single false lead would lead him on a completely divergent path, with no chance of ever knowing how close he had come. It was a high frustrating thought. |
