PostSubject: Two Intros and a battle...   Wed Apr 21, 2010 4:41 pm

Auren was walking down a small sidewalk in a quiet park in Lifan. He had heard about the upcoming tournament and thought that this off all things would be what would cause dozens of trainers who had never fought a battle or trained before together. This would be his grand moment.

Or the grand moment of the small flying gecko that was hovering about Auren's head and occasionally nipping at his book. It was unlikely that Auren would run out there and start bashing the enemy with a blunt sword, so it would probably up to this little fellow.

As Auren continued his stroll, he might get the feeling someone was watching him. Assuming he wasn't so absorbed in his book he wouldn't notice, that is. Continuing on a few more yards, a young man would come into sight, about his age or a touch younger. The boy was writing something in a notebook swiftly, glancing up at the walker every once in a while. He made no move to speak to Auren, or make any attempt to make contact.

Isaac Kinsley, as he was known, had come to Lifan for the same reason as Auren. He wanted to participate in the tournament. His motivation for this was rather different, though. He didn't actually care about the battles so much as those participating in the battles. He wanted to meet all the exotic Natrelmon and trainers that would surely be flooding to the tournament so he might capture them on canvas, or notebook as the case may be. As he was doing just now.

A cherry blossom drifted down from the tree above and settled on his shoulder. He smiled faintly and paused in his work to stroke it with a finger. That was another reason for participating. He wanted to help little Petal here grow up stronger. It was a rough world out there for a lone Sakura, even the smallest breeze representing an uphill battle. He would help her survive and thrive.

After that moment of reflection he returned to his work, now working on capturing the strange flying gecko in a single moment...

Penkaz eyed the cherry blossom, it's mouth curving down in displeasure. One could almost imagine it's train of thought if one knew it's predecessor.

~If only it wasn't on top of it's trainer, I could start breathing dragonfire at it!~

Auren, on the other hand, was not quite taking notice of the other trainer and it's natrelmon at first, mostly because he wasn't paying attention.

He began paying attention when Penkaz performed a tail whip just half an inch above his eye, stinging him and causing him to jolt.

"Oh, come now!" He looked severely displeased with his Penkaz for a moment before he noted that there was another trainer.

"Ah, that's what you want." He addressed his Penkaz almost wearily.

"Would you care for a battle? It seems my Penkaz seeks out battle with every natrelmon it can find." Auren closed his book over his left hand, the right hand still holding the spine. He wasn't looking at his book at the moment, but due to his rather temporary bookmark, it was likely he would start reading again soon.

The penkaz fluttered in it's little circles around Auren's head.

Isaac blinked, pencil point freezing en route to the paper. He then visibly relaxed, setting his notebook to the side as he rose to his feet.

"Sounds like an energetic little thing," he said, and laughed. He glanced over to the blossom on his shoulders. "How about it, Petal?"

The Sakura contrived to look excited. It would be impossible to explain how. Suffice to say it did. It's petals were practically quivering with anticipation.

"I guess that's it, then," he said, and shrugged. The flower Natrelmon glided down to the ground where it looked up defiantly at the dragon.

"Feel free to start whenever you're ready. My names Isaac Kinsley, by the way,"

"Auren Leland." Auren replied, not particularly interested, but not exceptionally impolite either. "I do believe your Leaf has a bit of a lack of offensive fire power, so this may not be a particularly fair battle."

"Penkaz, strategy Alpha." He commented, his eyes slowly drifting back to his book.

Penkaz took to the sky... By about one more foot that he was already in the air. He was already above Auren's head, so even gaining a foot more height put him extraordinarily high up there compared to something as short as a Sakura.

Penkaz unleashed a short burst of Dragonbreath at Leaf.

Considering the fact that Penkaz could pretty much hover a few feet out of the Sakura's reach and poke her to death with his innate, this could be a rather pointless battle.

"We'll do our best, I'm sure," said Isaac evenly, smile fading slightly. "Petal, strategy whirlwind." He didn't recognize the ridiculous simplicity of the name. Names were not his strong point. Hence, in fact, the simplicity of Petal's name.

As Penkaz inhaled, Sakura flapped its petals. A whirlwind generated, taking in some surrounding debris such as grass, small twigs, etc, and generally concealing the flower's form. As the gecko started to exhale, it launched toward the hovering gecko with its payload.

If Auren were watching the Sakura instead of his dragon, the opposing trainer, the whirlwind or his book, he would note that, in the intervening time between the whirlwind hiding it from him and it being launched, the flower had vanished. He wouldn't have much time to shout a warning, however.

As the Sakura started to jump, Penkaz immediately shut up it's mouth and canceled the firebreath. No point in using long ranged attacks when his own whirlwind was stronger by two factors and was more effective. So, it created a whirlwind of his own that was running in the opposite direction as Sakura's. While Sakura had two more pluses is magical aptitude, Penkaz actually had the wind type, and was a slow rather than medium grower. So, at the very least the attacks would cancel out.

With the very creation of his whirlwind he was also pushing himself backwards and up, by flapping his wings. No point in going into melee when it was the only chance Sakura had of victory.

Slightly interested in the development, Auren readied his feeble walls.

As the dragon backed away from its own whirlwind, Isaac nodded in the direction of the battle. A feeble wall appeared in the center of that whirlwind, dividing it in two. The wind pushed against it and shattered it in a moment, but the intensity of the attack had been lessened.

Before the two attacks met a small pink form dropped from the whirlwind, drifting toward the ground as the dragon rose toward the sky. The whirlwind met the other weakened one and pushed through it, continuing up, suitably weakened. After a moment its lessened power caught up to it, however. It ceased to rise and dissipated, its debris scattering to the ground below.

Isaac smiled, shielding his face from the cascade of grass, twigs and... seeds. While in the whirlwind Sakura had used sow to create seeds which were now spread throughout the entire battlefield. They immediately began to take root... He snatched up his notebook and immediately began to make a sketch of the scene that had just occurred. It was worth remembering, and he was certain he could make something beautiful of it.

"This is going to be painfully boring..." Auren muttered. The battle was just close enough he had to pay attention, and it wasn't going to go anywhere fast.

Penkaz descended to seven feet in height and feigned firing a burst of dragonbreath (a tiny hiccup of dragon breath came out) at the Sakura. He was watching carefully, in case she tried to do something while he fired.

As Penkaz descended, Sakura was moving about the battlefield cheerfully, scattering additional seeds, almost seeming to glow as the other seeds slowly began to supply her with energy. A slight musical sound was just on the cusp of hearing... Petal was humming a song, her small body barely able to produce an audible sound.

Isaac sketched furiously, pencil producing a scritch-scritch sound that could be heard even where Auren was standing. He didn't seem to pay the battle much mind. His eyes were intent on his notebook. As the dragon let out the burst of breath, he glanced up, but only added another detail to the sketch. He'd been checking for wingspan in proportion to the dragon's body.

Petal skittered off to one side nervously, hum becoming more shrill for a moment, but threw more seeds as she did so.

"You can do it, Petal! Show that lizard what you're made of!"

Isaac took a moment from his sketch to shout out this encouragement, drawing the attention of a few other passersby on a nearby street to glance in his direction before continuing on. The Sakura seemed put at ease at the sound of her master's voice and her humming grew more light and cheerful again.

"Penkaz, see if you can do what that Sakura did, only with dragonbreath, don't release it yet. I'll cover you on defenses." Auren called out. This might be an effective way to get rid of all those seeds, and hurt the Sakura.

So, Penkaz began that, breathing his dragonbreath into a whirlwind. The plan would probably take up a lot of uses of whirlwind, but honestly, he had eighteen left.

"Perhaps a one hit kill will break through that healing." Auren muttered to himself, watching keenly, but rather mournfully. He'd have to be looking up for the whole duration of this strategy.

Petal let out a shriek, and started to run away. She moved quickly from side to side, as if trying to throw the dragon off course, by still moving definitively away. Isaac looked up at the sound.

"No, no! Stand firm!"

The Sakura hesitated, looking panicked. She definitely still wanted to flee, but waited in the certainty that Isaac had something in mind.

"Bladed defense!" Isaac still held his notebook and pencil, but his eyes were intent on the fight.

Petal focused for a moment, and something subtle occurred, not easily noticeable to someone not, say, a few inches off the ground and expecting it. Then, she started beating her petals again, and a whirlwind formed, taking up all the grass, loose twigs, and loose seeds in the area.

Penkaz continued to charge up his attack while staying at seven feet in the air.

Petal continued to generate the whirlwind, which continually picked up more and more twigs and grass. Seeds were thrown out of it, scattering and taking root, and the Sakura seemed to grow more and more vibrant by the second. Though she couldn't sweat, Petal was straining to bide with the whirlwind this long.

Isaac was aware of this. She wouldn't be able to hold it much longer. He waited a few more moments, however, taking the time to take a sketch of the battle. After that, he watched the two, eyes narrowing. After a moment, without warning, before the Penkaz began to strike, he threw his notebook and pencil the ground and let out a shout.

"Now! Strike! Green blade!"

The whirlwind launched toward the gecko at a great speed, Petal nowhere to be seen on the ground again. This would, with any luck, be the deciding blow...

As "Green Strike" was yelled, so did Auren yell as well. "Attack!" His feeble walls were ready.

Penkaz swooped forward to meet the whirlwind head on, now focusing all his focus on his whirlwind, the crucial factor in the battle.

Petal continued up in the leap, and it seemed they would meet at roughly halfway. Halfway, in this case, was three and a half feet, considering Penkaz had been hovering at seven feet and Sakura standing at ground level.

Isaac glared at the field, as if daring the battle not to go exactly as he'd planned out. This was surprisingly exciting. He couldn't imagine himself getting so worked up over a battle, and yet here he was, breathing heavily already! Amazing!

"I love codes..." Auren muttered to himself... Who'd expect his command of Attack to be an order to do a dodge-attack? Granted, Penkaz was not dodging like he expected, but he had faith.

Penkaz fired off a gust and broke out of his dive, rising up and forward sharply, which would make him completely miss the collision of his dragonbreaths, carried by the gust, and the whirlwind with the Sakura in it. Not by much, but, at the very least, he'd be out of the way of his own attack. As he was carried above the point of collision, he rotated in the air so that he would be facing downward, ready to counter or take advantage of what happened.

As Penkaz pulled up from its dive to leave the whirlwind area, it smashed headfirst into a feeble wall, and Sakura dropped down toward the ground. The tips of both whirlwinds touched into another one, placed in the event of a hidden, unexpected attack. The gecko would fall down into the raging whirlwinds, the status of which was now... explosive.

When the two whirlwinds had been mostly wind, and one of them had been weakened, it had just been a matter of one flow overpowering the other. In this case, however, they both had a great amount of materials carried on both whirlwinds which added additional resistance, and both were close to equally powered...

The winds canceled out, and the pressurized dragon breath rushed out, carrying debris. This included the blades of grass which were, as it would turn out, sharpened to a razor's edge and would cut into the gecko's flesh and wings. The dragon breath itself would burn the small dragon's skin and generally damage it. All this would, in addition to the concussive damage from smashing into the wall, leave Auren's sole relic glowing.

Petal herself dropped down quickly enough that the breath diffused enough to cause only very minor damage, healed practically instantly by the huge amount of seeds scattered.
